Jasper Doest is a Dutch photographer who creates visual stories that explore the relationship between humankind and nature. Having majored in ecology, Doest knows human life depends on everything our planet has to offer, yet he recognizes the unsustainable nature of the current human patterns of consumption. Through his photographic work he gives a voice to the natural world and tries to bridge the gap between the natural world and ourselves. As a true believer in the power of photography to initiate change, Jasper is an International League of Conservation Photographers Senior Fellow and a World Wildlife Fund ambassador. His work has been contributing to international journals such as National Geographic Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine and GEO and received numerous awards, including World Press Photo and Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Jasper frequently lectures on photography, conservation and global sustainability and has presented at venues such as the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bonn and The Royal Geographical Society in London.
I'm a photographer and ecologist with a passion for telling stories at the junction of global environmental change and human culture. I believe that stories -- whether in the form of film, photography, writing, or something else -- have the power to persuade and motivate. That makes them crucial for protecting our wild places. I'm a National Geographic Explorer, 2019 Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellow in Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique, and a Fellow with the International League of Conservation Photographers. I'm represented by Nature Picture Library. I have a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University, which I completed with the help of a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Before that, I earned a BSc in Conservation and Resource Studies with an emphasis in Communicating Conservation in a Developing World from the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley. I've traveled on three continents, including ten years traveling and working on wildlife and conservation projects in Africa.

Photography is about telling a story and I've been doing it as a commercial photographer for over twenty years. Whether it be through one frame or a series of images, I love making photographs that speak about the subject. I'm drawn to location choices that complement a subject yet recede enough to allow the subject to dominate the image. Since growing up in Houston, TX in my father's printing company, I've always enjoyed the meticulous nature of my business. From operating an offset press at the age of 15, I learned the importance of quality craftsmanship that has remained an important aspect throughout my life. What I truly love about photography is both the technical and artistic sides. It's the balance of both of these that create interesting images that resonate with the viewer. In this day of digital media and our constant bombardment by visual clutter, it is so important to make imagery that tells its story in an elegant and unique way. Whether it's a single still photograph or a series, I enjoy making images that successfully communicate my client's vision. I live in beautiful Grapevine, TX along with my wife Rebecca and our two kids... Noah (17) and Annalise (15).
