December’s analytics showed the kind of activity you might have suspected. With the holidays in full swing, most business people took a break from their computers to spend time with family and friends. From November to December, new users declined by 4.6%. A similar drop occurred last year, but this year it only went down by 1.6%. Pageviews declined by 10% from last year, yet it shows that the people who do visit the website were ready to look around. Our session duration went up by 14.1% from last year and even by 2.4% over last month. Click-throughs went down by 1.6% since 2018, and specialty searches decreased by 5.2%
The United States remained the primary location of Wonderful Machine users, followed by India and the United Kingdom; the top five cities include New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, and London.
The source of traffic to the site was mostly unchanged. Search engines and direct links provide more than 60% of the traffic. Traffic from social media has increased, however, surpassing that from referrals by 3.1%.
Since last year, our impressions went up by 32.75% across all devices. Desktops and mobile devices are easily the most used, this month garnering 155,700 and 81,007 impressions respectively. During the same period last year, those numbers were 116,040 and 61,163. That being said, the click-through rate from these impressions is down 30.5% from last year, with the rate for both devices sitting at just about 1.95%.
The numbers for our blogs are holding steady. This month, 5,763 people arrived at our member blog. In fact, our second most viewed page this month — after our home page — was our Writing a Photographer Bio expert advice article, with 1,490 hits. The third most viewed page was our Find Photographers page with 1,413 — nice to know, considering this is our bread and butter.
