For April, Julia and I traveled to Minneapolis for another round of portfolio meetings. While we only had one day in the city, it was jam-packed with meetings scheduled with Lacek Group, Little & Company and Periscope. First up was Lacek Group, and being that they have clients like DuPont, we brought along some of our best agriculture and industrial photographers. They knew local Jim Henderson well, but also enjoyed seeing the farm work of Jennifer Silverberg and were impressed with the complex lighting setups of Kristopher Grunert’s work.

Next up was Little & Company, who was especially interested in local lifestyle photographers. Many names, like Jonathan Chapman and Michael Haug, were familiar to them, but David Bowman’s book was also a big hit. After getting some great suggestions for things to try and squeeze in before leaving town, we took a quick trip over to St. Paul for lunch and managed to fit in one touristy thing (photos with the Peanuts gang) before heading to our last meeting at Periscope.

The women at Periscope were also familiar with many locals, but enjoyed seeing some conceptual and food photographers, like Cade Martin, and loved the beautiful work of Hollis Bennett. The conceptual food work of Kyle Dreier was the crowd favorite, with his bright colors and unique compositions.
We obviously couldn’t leave town without meeting up with some of our local photographers and grabbing a drink (or two) and sharing some stories. We always love getting to meet our member photographers—we spend so much time looking at your sites, sending your name to clients and talking with you that it’s so nice to be able to put a face to the name! And a special thanks to Lacey Criswell from Hunt + Capture and David Bowman for taking us to get pizza and one more round at 1 a.m. (I always forget what night owls photographers are!)

After an incredibly long day, an incredibly short night of sleep, and a plane ride shared with Tiffani Thiessen (a.k.a. Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell!) we got back to Philadelphia to start planning the next one.
