This July, Wonderful Machine set up portfolio events at Ready Set Rocket and the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team. We had a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of our lifestyle, food & drink, motion, portraiture, and sports & fitness photographers.
Assistant Photo Editor Katie Keller and I headed to New York and met with Ready Set Rocket’s creative team. With muffins and cookies in hand and two Pelican cases full of portfolios, we walked into the meeting prepared with a production capabilities presentation and 20 photographer portfolios.
The team received the presentation and portfolios with great responses and had tons of questions about our photographers as well as Wonderful Machine’s capabilities. A creative director at Ready Set Rocket explained that they were most interested in our motion capabilities, specifically for financial clients, both with production and post-production. They explained that they work with a lot of food & drink clients as well as some clients with lifestyle needs so they were interested in seeing photographers that could shoot both. Luckily we have some amazing photographers that impressed the team with their skills in both of these specialties, so much so that they shared our presentation with their sister team/agency in Los Angeles.
The team was especially impressed by Rebecca Stumpf’s new portfolio, and we were so pleased to have the opportunity to show it. Rebecca has a great mix of lifestyle, portraiture, and food & drink work which was exactly what the client was asking to see.
Later in July, Executive Producer Craig Oppenheimer and I made a quick afternoon trip to the executive offices of the Philadelphia Flyers to meet with their Digital Media Manager and Graphic Designer.
It was a cozy meeting between the four of us, and we were presented with a great opportunity to discuss our production capabilities as well as showcase a handful of our local sports & fitness and portraiture photographers. Craig began the meeting with a capabilities presentation, and we finished by showing our photographers’ portfolios while discussing upcoming photo shoots and the needs of the Philadelphia Flyers. With topics such as media day, on-ice shoots, and new portraits for the team, Craig and I were excited to talk about our photographers as well as our capabilities and how we can best collaborate with the brand.
The Flyer’s team showed a great interest in the work of Baltimore-based Shawn Hubbard and Alexandria-based Patrick McDermott. Shawn Hubbard’s creative and colorful portraits are what stood out, and for Patrick, it was his on-ice work that caught their eye.
We already have three upcoming events scheduled for August and are looking forward to ramping up our portfolio events as the summer winds down and we begin to welcome Fall.
