When scheduling meetings with clients, we always need to be flexible since schedules are constantly changing and meetings often need to be pushed back. For this month’s portfolio events, Lorri Miller and her team at LevLane proved to be a tough fish to catch, but well worth the fight. A couple of weeks ago, executive producers Craig Oppenheimer and Jess Dudley joined me on the trip down 76 following the Schuylkill River, past boathouse row, and into center-city Philadelphia to the Wanamaker Building to meet LevLane.
As Lorri’s team gathered around the large conference room table to review our photographers’ portfolios, Craig gave a production capabilities presentation to demonstrate all of Wonderful Machine’s services.
The “oohs” and “aahs” over Leah Fasten’s portfolio were audible even as Craig moved through his slides. Leah’s ability to capture a raw and authentic moment was exactly what the team was looking for.
Melissa Valladares’ portraits were another that drew a lot of attention from the team. Lorri loved how Melissa’s environmental portraits allowed the subject to relax and feel at home while conveying their story.
LevLane works with a few food and drink clients as well, and I’m not too sure whether they were more impressed by Teri Campbell’s photography or his studio. His space is amazing, fully equipped with its own commercial kitchen, conference room, prop room, entertainment area, and anything necessary to compose a food and drink image.
In the end, Lorri asked to hold onto Leah and Melissa’s portfolios for some upcoming meetings they had with clients, and we were able to establish Wonderful Machine as a go-to resource for the LevLane team.
The best part of working in our industry is that you get to collaborate with people who thoroughly enjoy their jobs. Teri Campbell’s studio is a testament to such passion, and a letter sent by Leah Fasten from the perspective of her portfolio shows how much fun she has with her profession.
Dear Mom,
I’m having an awesome time at portfolio camp. I’ve met some really, really nice portfolios (and a few kind of mean competitive ones too).
I’ve been hanging around a lot with the lifestyle portfolios! They’re super nice. We make homemade jam and friendship bracelets and generally their light is pretty sunny. There are a few fashion portfolios from New York who are a little cliquey and wear a lot of black and the sports guys who can have really aggressive light, but they mean well. The architecture portfolios are super smart and a little nerdy and really sweet.
I’ve heard we’re going to go out on a lot of field trips and I can’t wait. I’ve never been to NY!
Anyway, I hope everything is good back in Emeryville. Give my love to all the other portfolios. I’ll report back after a field trip!
Xoxo
