For the month of May, we decided to try a new advertising option that we hadn’t explored before! Since we had so much success with our Facebook web ad last month, we wanted to continue checking out our social media options with a LinkedIn sponsored updates campaign. For our first LinkedIn ad, we decided to feature this great image from San Francisco-based conceptual and portraiture photographer Ramin Rahimian:
Ramin was kind enough to share some information about the photo we used:
This was a shoot for SF Magazine for an issue that focused on writers writing about other writers they admire. The subjects were Ali Liebegott (left) and Daniel Handler of Lemony Snicket fame. This shoot was at an IHOP. Actually, the IHOP where Ali used to work before becoming a writer. Her early work of The IHOP Papers was based on her experiences at that job. I wanted to do something over the top. Why not order multiple stacks of pancakes and go wild? They were so open to the idea and played along so well! Customers were looking over outloud and silently wondering if that is on the menu.
We ran the campaign for the second half of May and targeted it toward editorial and advertising clients in Latin American countries, since LinkedIn now allows you to target your campaigns pretty precisely. Check out our final audience selections for the campaign below.
The final ad had a large number of impressions but we were slightly unhappy with the click-through rate. In the end, We’re happy we tried it, and it did drive a bit of targeted traffic to the site, but until LinkedIn further improves its ad performance and interface, we’ll likely be looking elsewhere to advertise.
As always, please feel free to reach out if you’d like to hear more. Until next month!
