Matt and Agnes Hage are no strangers to adventure. Most of their work takes place in crazy locations across the globe, from the Zion Canyons to remote mountains in New Zealand, to their most recent— Alaska’s Arctic Coastline. Alaska also happens to be Matt’s home state, so when he and Agnes got the call to shoot a project for Smartwool in the Arctic Circle, they were excited to get started.
Just north of Fairbanks, AK (Matt’s hometown), sits a network of log cabins used by local dog mushers, paced out along a 100-mile trail. Travelers frequent the path on snow mobiles, keeping it packed down and perfect for fat-tired bikes. The Hage’s mission was to showcase Smartwool’s brand through “out of the ordinary winter activities.” So, they hand picked a crew of friends from Alaska and around the country and set out to bike the trail. They covered 20 miles each day, stopping at various cabins along the way. The photos tell a real, wonderful story that might just make the average person want to throw on their Smartwool and hit the trail:
Every aspect of the trip was a photoshoot; group dinners, wood chopping contests and cocktail hour. Temperatures hovered around ten below during the days and the crew would stop for five minute dance parties to warm up on the trail. The ‘having fun’ nature of the crew translated well to the work we produced and fits the Smartwool brand perfectly. Needless to say it’s been a big hit with the client, leading much of their winter promos right now.
