Gladwyne, Pennsylvania-based photographer Jeffrey Totaro shot a spread for Jacobs, a construction services company, that was published in Contract Magazine on the concept of flexible workspaces. Jeffrey traveled to Boston to photograph this financial services company’s office over a weekend, allowing him a quiet, empty space to work in.
Can you tell me more about this project?
Jacobs brought in the people for us from their local office to be models as needed, which is a difficult part actually. Shooting offices on weekend helps a ton for better control, but then there is no one around. The office is a financial services company and this space is a rollout of a new office concept for them which is totally open and flexible for the workers. Practically no walls, just open space and specialized furniture for various working tasks or collaborating.
What were the shoots like?
The whole process was very collaborative with my client. We initially walked through the space and planned the shots based on how many people we needed for each and also based on the light, of course. This always involves moving lots of furniture around to get it right for the story and the photos.
