Singapore-based commercial and editorial photographer Lauryn Ishak embarked on the ultimate island escape as she explored a remote corner of Southeast Asia while on assignment for Virtuoso Life Magazine. Providing savvy travelers with inspiration on where to go next, Lauryn showcased the spectacular views and accommodations of two resorts Six Senses Ninh Van Bay and Amanoi in Vinh Hy Bay situated amidst the beaches and pristine waters of Vietnam’s Nha Trang region.
Lauryn has been working with Virtuoso for many years, and she typically shoots a few assignments for the publication throughout the year. Lauryn enjoys working with the award-winning flagship magazine because of the trust they have built together over time. It has given her the liberty to utilize her creative expertise and work the brief freely once she receives a shot list or draft of the article.
Lauryn flew into Nha Trang from Singapore and had to transfer by boat to reach Six Senses Ninh Van Bay where she spent two nights shooting the white sand beach surrounded by towering mountains and impressive rock formations. Despite the short time frame allotted, Lauryn was able to satisfy her shot list thanks to the 300 days of sunshine a year that Nha Trang is known for.
Location-wise, it was beautiful and full of character. If anything, the challenge is always weather and time but everything went smoothly.
Nestled on 128 hilly acres and surrounded by secluded inlets, the Six Senses Ninh Van Bay resort invites its guests to partake in soul-nourishing activities, like aerial yoga or relaxing in the 12-foot hammock stretched above the surf. Highlighting one of the many ways to delight the senses while vacationing in this royal paradise, Lauryn showcased a plate of fresh spring rolls with prawns taken from the resort’s cooking class.
Following her two-night stay at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, Lauryn traveled another two hours overland to reach Amanoi in Vinh Hy Bay along a stretch of Vietnam’s coastline for a one-night stay. Situated within Nui Chua National Park, the Amanoi in Vinh Hy Bay has 35 mountaintop guest pavilions spread across 100 protected acres in a marine forest preserve. An oasis of splendid proportion, Lauryn captured the serene backdrop of the Vinh Hy Bay from Goga Peak and the breathtaking views from Amanoi’s beach club restaurant.
Known for its beaches, diving sites, and offshore islands, Nha Trang is Vietnam’s most famous seaside resort-town. It’s more lively and urban in character than other beach destinations, like Mui Ne and Phu Quoc, and is recognized as the scuba diving center of Vietnam. Lauryn took time to tour aspects of the local culture, including a demonstration of how traditional Cham pottery is made.
As always, the best part is always meeting new people on assignments. I learned a lot about the Champa kingdom and the culture and foods of the region.
While some may question whether making the trip to such a remote location is worth the hassle, Lauryn’s photos illustrate the story of this island oasis along Vietnam’s rivers and coastlines. With a friendly and laid back atmosphere, this region invites tourists to relax by the beach and learn about Vietnam’s culture on one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
