It’s always fun to hear what the Alaska-based duo Matt and Agnes Hage have been up to and this time was no different. In the deadly heat of a Salt Lake City summer Matt and Agnes created this awesome multisport campaign for Gregory Mountain Products. The objective was to produce imagery for the recent launch of their men’s and women’s backpacks Miwok and Maya for hiking, running, and biking.
The shot list also included showcasing the features of each pack model such as hipbelt pockets, attachment points for trekking poles and the new BioSync Active Trail suspension. Gregory needed the work by mid-July, so we decided to get this project on the calendar before the Independence Day holiday. Hopefully we could get the whole thing wrapped up and delivered so we could take a long weekend with our friends.
Agnes, with some help from Sandra Salvas (a native to Utah) handled all aspects of production for this project and while it wasn’t always easy, they managed to find the perfect talent to match the client’s vision. Matt needed to shoot three different sports in inspiring locations while utilizing natural light. After Sandra spent a few days scouting, Matt and Agnes were ready to head out to SLC to begin their struggle through the blistering heat to capture these adventurous images.
They finished up this leg of the shoot with some adrenaline pumping encounters with the native wildlife— just to keep things interesting.
In the evening we started our peak hike, it was a hundred degrees at five o’clock and not much cooler after sunset on the summit. Something totally unexpected always happens on any kind of extended project. We knew there were rattle snakes in the area, but were completely caught off guard by how active they are in this kind of heat. Coming down the craggy ridges by headlamp got very real when several rattlers let us know that these were their rocks. Yikes!
After a quick trek to Idaho, they were ready for their final scene: an overnight family camping trip complete with IPAs, smores and camping chairs. Matt and Agnes were able to wrap, retouch and deliver the files to the awesome team at Gregory before heading out on their own adventure.
