“It’s a dream come true,” says L.A. photographer Megan Dendinger about her recent work with one of Australia’s classiest children’s clothing brands, Tutu Du Monde. There was no hesitation from Megan when she found herself presented with the opportunity to shoot a whole winter campaign for the world-renowned girls’ tutu brand when they were visiting L.A. As a children’s fashion and editorial photographer, Megan was not only familiar with the clothing from pulling pieces for shoots in the past, but has been an overall fan for years.
For this campaign, Megan wanted to stay true to the brand’s ethereal identity by producing a magically whimsical, winter look in a historic ballroom. Because Megan already lives in L.A., she was able to take on the production and casting of the talent for the shoot. From location and tech scouting to finding the perfect team of stylists, she oversaw much of the creative direction for this piece.
I am highly involved in many of the creative processes with most companies I work for and I love that. Being able to get creative is the best feeling.
The team did have a few challenges arise the day of the shoot. The location she had chosen, though esthetically perfect, was technically difficult. There was a key-access only elevator that was the team’s access point to the ballroom. Between less than punctual delivery of the key, and needing to move all the props and set pieces into the room on a shortened schedule, it certainly wasn’t easy. Thankfully Megan prides herself on staying calm and collected under pressure, and somehow they managed to accomplish everything in the day, ending up with lovely images.
So far, people have really loved the photos, and Megan is pretty passionate about them as well! She hopes that Tutu Du Monde’s use of them helps to sell lots of their incredibly unique outfits.
I would love to work with Tutu Du Monde again. Working with the beautifully talented children, and a wonderfully supportive team was the best. I truly love my job and am passionate about it. It fulfills me in a way that I can’t quite explain.
