Jacksonville, Fla.-based aerial and lifestyle photographer Ryan Ketterman has worked with Dalton Agency on numerous assignments over the years. So when they were looking for the perfect photographer to shoot their Visit Jacksonville campaign, Ryan was their first choice. Visit Jacksonville is the official travel information resource for the Jacksonville area and they were looking for some stand-out images to help spread the word about their beach-side city. When the Dalton crew presented Ryan as an option to the Visit Jacksonville folks, they were pleasantly surprised to find that they were already familiar with his work. Everyone agreed that Ryan’s colorful and energetic photo style was a perfect match for their campaign and called him to chat about the assignment. Ryan was pumped about the campaign, especially for the chance to photograph a wide variety of locations and subjects around his hometown.
After accepting the job, Dalton Agency presented Ryan with a finalized list of key shots they wanted him to capture. They then set him loose to do his thing. The list included a shot of Jacksonville Beach on a crowded, sunny day. Not too hard to get — except it was October when the beach is usually far from crowded. Luckily, after some research, Ryan learned that The Blue Angels were scheduled to perform above the beach — and, figuring a good crowd would show, he coordinated with another client to gain access to the 9th floor of a condo with a direct view of the beach. Soon, the beach was full of onlookers and Ryan was able to snap some great, mid-summer-worthy shots of Jacksonville beach, along with some fun Blue Angels photos for his own portfolio.
With the most challenging shot down, Ryan could move on to some of the easier photos to capture. These included stylish photos of downtown Jacksonville and its skyline, beach and lifestyle shots, surfing images, and general Jacksonville-good-times photos. For the beach and surfing images, Ryan enlisted the help of some attractive friends.
Unfortunately, their shoot day was scheduled during a particularly nippy cold snap, but according to Ryan, they were real troopers. Which was fortunate, since the light that day was fantastic, even if the temperature wasn’t.
Jacksonville’s beach community is great, and occasionally the waves are too.
The clients have been extremely happy with the finished photographs. Ryan still has a few shots to capture and is working on coordinating just the right vantage points for some killer skyline shots. The images that are completed will be used in ads for in-flight magazines, Facebook, and outdoor billboards.
This job reinforced ideas that I’ve already had, mostly that a good attitude will always come back to you tenfold.
