I fell into photography and into climbing at the same time, in my early twenties. The two fed each other: I had to climb bigger and wilder mountains so I would get better images, and I had to become a better photographer so I could do justice to the epic scenes unfolding in front of me. Over ten years ago now, I made the decision to drop out of my computer science studies and move to the climbing mecca of Chamonix to be a full time adventure photographer. I am grateful that photography has given me so many opportunities to live unique experiences. There are too many to list exhaustively, but highlights include sailing an expedition yacht around Cape Horn, being invited to an Ethiopian coffee ceremony in Dadaab Refugee Camp, photographing Usain Bolt at the Olympics, skiing to the North Pole, naming three (small) mountains in Greenland, adventure racing through Tierra del Fuego, climbing on K2 and getting winched from a rescue helicopter at night [1]. Though I have since branched out in other genres of photography, from portraiture to humanitarian, automotive and industrial work, I remain passionate about using the still image as a powerful tool to tell stories and convey emotions. I am also a problem solver at heart, used to dealing with the complicated logistics of shooting in wild places with unpredictable weather. And when the circumstances call for it, I have even been known to put on a producer hat.
Daniel Ernst is a commercial photographer and filmmaker based in Germany. With a dedication to the outdoors and meaningful storytelling, Daniels work has lead him to many remote places around the world especially drawn to the Nordic regions. Inspired by nature, his work mainly focuses on the outdoors, adventure and lifestyle. 'With my photography and stories I want to inspire people, evoke a desire, a motivation to leave the rush behind, escape routine, go outdoors, explore and experience nature. We are fortunate to be presented with many opportunities in this world, it's just about making them into reality. Storytelling as a tool to allow people to live through my images and videos, I think that’s the most powerful essence of my work, when it comes down to one point.'
Jenn Ackerman and Tim Gruber are a husband and wife team based in Minneapolis, MN. Their images are full of life and color. Simply put we are storytellers. We enjoy the collaborative nature of being a tight-knit team and pushing each other to create images that sing. Our goal on every assignment is simple - evoke emotion and authenticity in every image we make. We believe you can’t forget what you feel so we try to make images that make you feel something. We pride ourselves in connecting with everyone we photograph. Whether you are a 10-year-old or a CEO, we find something to relate to with everyone and in turn we come away with something that is genuine and meaningful. We can’t tell you how many times people have told us that it was the best experience they have ever had with a photographer. We pride ourselves in being kind and making sure everyone has that experience. Our work has been honored by the Communication Arts Photography Annual and Advertising Annual 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, American Photography 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, PDN Photo Annual, CENTER Project Competition, Photolucida’s Critical Mass, Inge Morath Award, Magnum Expression Award, POYi, and many others.
