As a child, Phil was always exploring with friends, running through backyards, hopping fences, and riding bikes all over Kansas City. The only thing missing was a camera. Studying film at Columbia College Chicago, he became awakened by the craft of visual story telling. The creative experience reminded him of youthful play. An internship with Dennis Manarchy showed him the fast paced world of commercial film production. Eager for more experience, he moved to NYC where received an MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts. He then began shooting food, most notably for the New York Times. Next was Austin, where he assisted and traveled with the brilliant Dan Winters, a fortunate experience which prepared him with the necessary tools to explore the craft of photography. Phil Kline is now a commercial and editorial photographer who shoots portraits and still life. Conceptual humor is not only seen in the work but also displayed in his on set spirit. He’s just fun to work with!
Thanks for taking the time to read my bio. I am the man behind the curtain, but there is no Oz here. I love to dive headfirst into each project, infusing a boundless energy and dedication into every shot. Behind the fun energy and dry humor lies a relentless work ethic. Whether it's a grandiose production or an smaller “intimate’ shoot, I thrive on surpassing expectations. I try to blend imaginative concepts with deep technical expertise. I like visual impact. I like visual drama. I like how things look better to me after looking through a lens blanketed in light. From capturing the perfect lighting to orchestrating an ensemble of props and models, my attention to compositional detail is something I strive for in every shot. This of course is always accompanied by a spectacular crew which come together to build the creative beast. I'm not just a photographer; but a storyteller, creating work that transcend the realms of the ordinary. My visuals burst with vibrant colors, rich emotions, and a hint of whimsy, always with the hope of leaving a lasting impression. I understand that a successful shoot isn't just about engaging stills or motion but also about building lasting relationships. I have an easy going personality that helps put clients at ease, ensuring a stress-free and enjoyable experience for all. I keep a tight and collaborative set, always keeping an open mind and ear. Whether it's a multi-million-dollar campaign or a small-scale project, I pour my whole self into each endeavor. I embrace challenges with open arms, transforming obstacles into opportunities to shine even brighter. My insatiable thirst for creativity and unparalleled work ethic ensure that no detail goes unnoticed. I also love a cocktail to celebrate a job well done. It’s usually a must 😉 So, step into my world, where ideas come to life and imagination takes flight. Please drop me a line and let’s talk about your ideas!
