Businesses should compete based on great stories. Pure and simple. It's my job to draw out and photograph your stories in a way that causes customers to click with your brand. Nashville-based photographer and visual storyteller with a great love of people. My work is focused on telling better stories for your website, social media, blog, print collateral, and in-house displays. With a BA in Photography from Thomas Edison State College; a thesis written on How Photography Causes Social Change; a year teaching photography at the college level; and an MA in theology your images will come from a deep understanding of the power of images and the human heart. Born and raised in the South with a deep appreciation for roots, narrative & quality. I grew up watching light slant through Georgia pine trees and it changed the way I see.
I love my job, so much it doesn't feel like a job. Still can't believe I get to make photos for a living. Favorites photos? Ones that are equal parts pretty and useful. Favorites shoots? Ones that involve a scrappy crew and client, where by the end it feels a bit like summer camp did, a bit weird to say goodbye to the people your life has revolved around for days, but we all leave feeling accomplished as a team. Favorite subject? People of any age! Though I do love a good detail, an enticing dish, or anything that helps tell a story and inviting. Background? Born in Florida, childhood summers in California, and thrice Texas transplant (once for college, once for work, and once for hubs.) Liberal arts degree in history; various jobs after college that made photography seem like the best career in the world; married with kids; owner of one seriously adorable and ornery dog; and a "human pinball" technically residing in Austin, TX, though frequently found in Florida or in a window seat headed elsewhere.
The beauty of life is its different qualities of light, texture, and harmonious imbalance. Capturing this is what most inspires me as a photographer. I see the world through the conscious and subconscious flavors and aromas of my childhood memories. A childhood that included my earliest years living in Guatemala, then moving through 36 states in an old-beater Mercedes van with my family, a few months in Thailand, and eventually landing in Florida as a teenager. Throughout my life, I was surrounded by delicious meals, rich cultures, and vibrant experiences, which were all nurtured by my parents and have affected my ability to find beauty anywhere. I left home at 19 to start my own journey, which took me to New York, Germany, France, and finally California. The first part of my career was spent as a personal chef, which eventually led me to attend The Academy of Art University for photography. From there I was staff photographer at Munchery, one of the first food startups in the US where I built and managed a photography team of five photographers in four states. I was the marketing photographer for Good Eggs, a tech based food startup in Silicon Valley. I've since freelanced for a variety of brands like Postmates, Udemy, and Brandless, editorials like Martha Stewart Living, National Geographic Magazine, Healthyish, and established companies like Jello and Avocado of Mexico. Clearly my first love is food photography, but thanks to my vagabond upbringing, I'm easily able to capture the storytelling of lifestyle + travel that any client needs.
