A product of two blue collar families from western Maryland, it seemed pretty likely that I was not going to escape a little hard work. Growing up outside Washington, DC, much of life was spent outdoors. Lucky for me, I had a Dad that practically lived outdoors, following him out the door to find something worth pursuing, building or taking apart was not a problem. In middle school, I began to draw and nature became my subject. Sometime late in high school, my interest gradually turned to photography. Full of enthusiasm, uncertainty and encouragement from my teachers, I headed to college to become a graphic designer. Two years into my graphic design education, I switched to photography and graduated with a BFA in Photography from the University of Maryland, I soon found myself in Florida where I’ve been shooting on my own since 1992. Looking through a viewfinder has always been a way to quiet the noise in my head and given the choice between an aisle seat and a window, I will always choose the window.
In nearly fifteen years of photographic practice, I’ve shot pretty much everything: portraits for magazines, big corporations, and good ol’ straight up advertising; interiors for editorial and commercial clients; and tabletop for many magazines and one giant tech company. I’ve always had a hard time defining what kind of work I do because of that diversity, but most of the time it goes like this: An agency hires me for a portrait project. It goes pretty well and they like working with me, so they hire me for a corporate or advetising job, which together we crush. We are thick as thieves at this point, so when their client asks them: ‘hey, we want to shoot this whatchamacallit, what do you think?’ they think of me because I’m: 1. easy to work with, 2. good with lighting and technical stuff, 3. happy solving problems on the fly, and 4. always delivering to spec and on time. I will get into the infiniti pool without being asked, if that’s where the picture is.
Michael Wilson is a naturally curious human being. That curiosity has led him to meet some of the most fascinating people from all walks of life and enjoys some of the most unique experiences of his life. So much of photography is simply problem-solving, and solving problems is what Michael does best. Whether it’s figuring out the best way to approach an editorial story to provide comprehensive storytelling imagery or working directly with clients to make sure images fully encompass everybody’s vision. Ultimately at the end of the day Michael’s hope is to make interesting and compelling images that make viewers pause, even if just for a second longer, in this ever-changing fast paced world of media consumption.
At Dean Lavenson Photography, Dean brings an utter passion to the set. He is a master with light and an absolute perfectionist. He is as giddy about photography today as when he was a student. And with that passion comes with over 25 years of experience. After graduating from Brooks Institute of Photography and freelancing in L.A. for a few years, Dean relocated his family from Santa Barbara, California to Louisville in 1989. He’s still trying to figure out how that happened. All he remembers is a big yellow Ryder truck with a matching yellow ’73 VW Bug in tow and his wife, Dianne, crying across every state line. Dean still dreams about the beach, but over the years he’s grown to love Louisville. As for how Dean first got started with a camera? Now that’s a long story. Let’s just say, he was on his way to becoming the next Wynton Marsellis. Lucky for Mr. Marsellis, Dean ended up in Beginning Photography as a high school senior. Ask him in person and he’ll give you the looooong version.

Call him Doug. It's only "Douglas" because douglevy.com was taken. Doug grew up halfway between Boston and Providence and now lives just north of the city, but, Doug spent six years umpiring professional baseball. So he's not really a huge Red Sox fan. Doug started umpiring Little League games when he was 13. Doug believes that photos should show who you are, not just what you look like. Doug thinks that if you ever find yourself in Birmingham, you need to eat barbeque at Jim ‘n Nicks. Doug thinks everything tastes better with hot sauce. Except for cereal, that would be weird. Doug also knows that there is a Bruce Springsteen song for every occasion.
Born and raised in the Midwest. I first became interested in the arts in high school. This is where I began my creative journey and first felt what it was like to create something entirely your own. I started my BFA with a focus on painting, though that quickly shifted into digital media. I have always been interested in and drawn to technology’s advances as well as their origins. I then started to explore sculpture and how different types of digital media could play a role in three-dimensional work. My work shifted into building my cameras while merging traditional and new photographic processes. Upon graduation, my passion for photography grew as I learned more about lighting and started to develop my photographic style.

He is sponsored by by Snuggie and popcorn and is an active activist against world suck. I wish I could say I have tasted every dish I shot. People may not agree on politics, taxes or even the weather, but we surely drop our differences and come together over food. Time spent at the table with others is one of the best ways to get to know them. Photography is much the same. Spending most of my fifteen year career as a magazine art director and photographer, I have worked with a wide variety of subjects from senators and beauty queens to chefs and turkeys. I enjoy the time with the personalities I photograph and the gratifying part is hearing their story and capturing the moment in time. My work has been recognized in the creative industry’s leading publications: Art Director’s Club of New York Annual, the Communication Arts Design Annual, and SPOTS competition. I often use older film cameras including an 11×14 ultra large format Burke & James, 8×10 and 4×5 pinhole cameras, and a beautiful Pentax 67. My recent favorite is a 1960’s era Polaroid Land camera converted into a 4×5 rangefinder. I live, work and play in Richmond, Virginia with my lovely and very understanding wife, two daughters and son.

He brings an editorial flair to everything from corporate portraits to product work while holding strong to the technical precision that this level of photography requires. I have a pretty simple life. I like traveling, coffee, and laughing. . . ideally, all at once. I live on a small farm in Ireland, where my partner Olivia and I have an animal sanctuary. I was first handed an old Kodak Brownie camera at age 10. I went on to college where I studied photography and graduated at the top of my class. After a handful of photo jobs, I stumbled into producing. With its fast-paced creativity and non-stop action in captivating images, the advertising world swept me right off my feet. In my years in this industry, I’ve worked as a photographer, director and producer for clients like Sony, Cadillac, Honda, Bushmills, HP and IBM. I’ve organized and executed photo and video shoots for everything from food and yoga to homes, cars, and aerospace. If you can think of it, I’ve put a shoot together for it. After all this time, I’ve realised why I truly love what I do; I love people’s stories, and the chance to help tell those stories. And I especially love telling those stories using visual media, which brings depth and dimension to a narrative like nothing else.
I am a commercial photographer who creates sports lifestyle imagery. I am based in Southern California, living just outside Los Angeles in Rancho Santa Margarita. My love for photography began when I was 11 years old with a Sports Illustrated subscription that included a free camera. Changing the plastic cameras f-stop’s from cloudy to partly cloudy, and even to the sunny setting was all the sophistication I needed to test it out the first time photographing Shamu on our family vacation. From there, as they say, the rest is history. Having participated in sports and outdoor adventure throughout my life I naturally gravitated towards sports lifestyle imagery. It has always provided me with opportunities to challenge myself in new ways, creatively and technically. Whether I'm photographing an NBA superstar with a five minute time limit or capturing a runner in full stride, each day as a photographer is exhilarating and satisfying.
I am an editorial and commercial photographer living and working in Austin, Texas with my husband and sweet daughters. At 13 I took my first darkroom class at the Southwest Center of Arts and Crafts in San Antonio. The moment I watched an image appear in the developer I knew that there was magic in photography and I wanted to know everything about that magic. I graduated in photography at the top of my class at St. Edward’s University where I learned how to be an artist from compassionate and beautiful teachers.
I uses improvisational thinking and a relentlessly innovative approach to lighting and production to execute brand imagery and editorial stories that are unscripted, compelling and human. I work as a local in Boston and San Francisco with a preference to shoot lifestyle productions in Atlanta or LA. When I'm not on set, you'll find me leading the AI Salon I launched earlier this year, dabbling in Creative Direction and Brand Strategy for friends, and tearing up gravel bike trails. I make my own clothes to relax, have kept a daily written journal since I was 12, and I perform Improv theater.
Stacy Allen grew up in the South and has been taking photos since early adulthood. It was in those very cubicles that she began to yearn for days outside an office with camera in hand. She took the leap into commercial photography in 2017. She specializes in chasing light and finding beauty in the quiet places. Her portfolio is filled with a combination of food, travel, interiors, people, and quite a few cocktails. Stacy lives in Birmingham, Alabama with her husband, 2 children, dog, and cat. Her work has been featured in Vogue UK, Southern Living, WWD, Garden & Gun, Food & Wine, Faire, and Tauko Magazine.

Miami-based photographer, Sonya Revell, creates imagery that emerges from her delightful daydreams of dazzling candy colors and connects closely with complex and compelling characters. Also, she is a fan of alliteration. While she now calls Florida home, Sonya originally hails from the great state of Kentucky (can you tell from the picture?), where she attended the same high school as Muhammad Ali. Sonya considers eating ice cream a hobby and was once struck by lightning (indirectly, but it was still quite shocking). While Revell still fantasizes about running off to join the circus or perhaps becoming a race car driver, the truth is, nothing tops image making.

"I am made up of everything I have seen", said Matisse at the end of his life, and this beautiful turn of phrase describes the way Irene Peña goes about crafting a picture. Through her untamed images runs a deep river of knowing and seeing, of filling up her mind with dresses, light and shadow, movement and haze. The photographer's craft reaches back in time from the precise moment an idea came to be, sometimes in collaboration with a designer or an artist. Irene takes that idea and develops it with the trained eye of an editor: backgrounds, locations, lighting, models, colors, and poses begin to fall into place. There is always a pleasure in rediscovering her images once the shoot is over; in this new calm she continues her work of acutely observing, every little square a possibility of beauty. Born in Costa Rica, Irene began studying painting and graphic design, which morphed into a career in photography. She studied at Santa Monica College, in California, and after a stint as an advertising photographer, she turned to the world of fashion photography in Los Angeles. Right now, Irene is based in Costa Rica, where she continues her innovative work, using analog and digital cameras, with established designers and new Costa Rican talent.

She has 20 years of experience shooting for clients across the country on both big and small productions. Buff was born and raised in Texas and has been taking pictures as long as she can remember. She spent all her free time in high school photographing her friends and in the darkroom. Buff's undergraduate degree drew her to a career in advertising in San Francisco where she was able to work with some amazing photographic talent and continue her photography studies at UC Berkeley. She was inspired to quit her day job after a soul searching road trip and has never looked back. Buff's passion for photography brought her to New York in 2000. She traveled extensively shooting for clients such as Travel and Leisure, Gourmet, House Beautiful, Body and Soul, Parents, Hyperion, Time Inc. and Coastal Living. Buff is energized creatively by the variety of work she's asked to shoot and capturing moments that are personal and authentic in her subjects. In 2011 Buff, her husband and son George moved their home base to Austin. But she finds herself back in NYC shooting for clients and visiting family and friends as often as possible.
