The two most crucial factors impacting social media algorithms are the amount of engagement a piece of content receives, particularly within a short period after posting, and the general engagement rate with the creator’s content, not only the most recent published content.
Although every social media platform is immensely popular, their respective algorithms tend to set different priorities on types of profiles (businesses and personal profiles). It is common knowledge that Facebook heavily prioritizes personal profiles over businesses. However, it’s worth noting that Instagram follows a similar approach but places more emphasis on engagement rate in general, such as likes, comments, and previous engagements with the particular creator. At present, all social media platforms try to follow similar logic that involves reducing the priority of content from the most popular influencers. Instead, they aim to provide users with an opportunity to view content from the non-internet-famous individuals in their network.
This month our Instagram profile had 6,422 accounts reached and 21,903 impressions. Furthermore, we have gained 108 more followers. Despite our numbers taking slight dips this month due to removing the usage of polls to our stories, Instagram is still where we see the most engagement. Some of the ways to overcome this are to hit the most popular hours as much as possible, better utilize captions and hashtags, and of course, be consistent.
