February was another good month for Wonderful Machine, which we can tell in part from our Google Analytics. Last month, I reviewed traffic to both the main site and our blog, and discussed visitor locations, Feedburner and bitly. This month, I’d like to again go into traffic as well as traffic sources and social media.
First up, the main site. February is the shortest month of the year, so there will typically be a little dip in traffic, but the numbers are still good. We had 11,466 people visit the site a total of 20,918 times (this is a big jump from February 2012, when we saw 8,683 visitors.) There were 30,692 page views, and the average visitor stayed over 5 minutes.

As for traffic sources, or how these visitors are getting to our site, here is a list of the top referrers:
Direct means that the visitor typed wonderfulamchine.com into their browser, or came through a bookmark. Google was, as always, a big source. This is why SEO is so important, especially since we hear time and time again that creatives often use Google to find photographers. In February, we used Google Adwords again, and that’s what “google / cpc” refers to. It’s important to review your traffic sources to see which marketing tactics are working and which aren’t.
As for the blog, we saw some good numbers there as well. In February, 17,508 people visited the blog 25,952 times. We had 127,607 pageviews and a bounce rate of only 11.5%.

Notice that Facebook brings a large number of viewers to the blog each month, more than Twitter (t.co), even though Wonderful Machine has more Twitter than Facebook followers. If I didn’t review our Analytics, I would probably put more effort into our Twitter, but knowing this I tend to spend more time engaging with our Facebook fans.
If you go to Traffic sources > Social > Overview in your Analytics, you can then get a better idea of what social media is doing for you. By clicking on Facebook there, I can see what links and bringing in traffic from that source. Here are the top links bringing in traffic from Facebook in February:
For Twitter our top links were:

We also have a Google+ page, but really only for SEO purposes. It only has 63 followers at the moment. I post things there just to help Google find us, and to hopefully come up higher in search results.
