Jason Myers: Hot Country Knights

BY Wonderful Machine 8 June 2015
Published, Photographer Spotlight

You’ve probably heard of Dierks Bentley. The Nashville singer-songwriter is a well-known country music superstar with 13 singles that have reached No. 1 on the country music charts. So what does a country music icon with an incredibly successful career and heartthrob reputation do in his off time? Grow a mustache, sport a mullet and create a ’90s country star alter-ego, of course:

Nashville photographer Jason Myers recently collaborated with The Green Room PR to photograph Dierks’ alter-ego, Douglas, and his “band,” the Hot Country Knights. The Hot Country Knights include guys who really play in Dierks’ band, along with John Osborne of Brothers Osborne. The end result is a hilarious series of portraits that look like they came right out of a 1990s country music CD booklet.

The concept was to dress them in 90’s country clothes, ham it up and have fun as if it were a shoot from 1991. We accomplished all of that.

According to Jason, the band members were all hilariously in character for the entire shoot. He said the band brought their “A-game” and worked the camera in front of a couple Home Depot drop cloths (that weren’t even steamed). The photos can be found on the Knights’ website, which looks like it’s from the ’90s, too (dancing baby gif, anyone?).

[The photos] have been well received here in Nashville and the guys played several shows at The American Legion leading up to CRS week. That’s the week all the radio stations come to town. Also that week, they played The Stage along with Randy Houser, Miranda Lambert, Kip Moore and Charles Kelly from Lady Antebellum who were all in character as a ’90s artist. This vanity project made it’s way into People and all over the national television channels.

The project was a fun, new experience for Jason:

Always be open to collaboration. Surround yourself with good people, work hard, be nice and great things start coming to you.
