Wonderful Machine’s team of staff in our bullpen continued to outreach to Brands, Publications, and Agencies this past June. Here’s a recap of their efforts.
Julia Hanley spent the month supervising the client outreach process and heading up Brand Research. Throughout the month, Julia sat with each team member to help them improve their messaging and the way they outreach to clients on behalf of our member photographers.
In addition to this supervision, Julia was able to add 216 new contacts to existing brands and completed 245 calls and 209 emails. This outreach resulted in 33 phone connections and 12 email connections. One of her email connections was with the Content Marketing Manager at Arris who responded quite positively:
Hi Julia, Thanks for reaching out. We’ll certainly keep you in mind when the need for photographers arises in the future. Thanks again!
Julia also had a phone connection with the head of Marketing & Communications and Creative Development at Standard Insurance. Once the representative explained how he works with multiple agencies for creative and production support, Julia explained how Wonderful Machine’s production capabilities could help Standard meet their goals. The representative requested an email follow up, and Julia sent him some case studies that were relevant to him.

Pat focused on tweaking his outreach process while additionally focusing on brands, agencies, and publications that Wonderful Machine had not touched base with in over a year. Structuring outreach this way helps Wonderful Machine have a better understanding of the shifting needs of companies who hire photographers and keeps our database fresh.
Pat began customizing his photographer recommendations to better suit each company’s existing photography needs. He was able to make 234 calls yielding over 20 connections including a valuable conversation with the production director at HYC Merge who said:
We love the fact that you are able to merge quality photographers with a whole suite of production services.
Pat also connected with the Photography Producer at We Are Alexander who said:
We’ll definitely keep Wonderful Machine in mind, looks like a terrific resource!”
Alex spent June working side-by-side with Executive Producer, Craig Oppenheimer, making content for social media posts for a local Philadelphia-based company. When he wasn’t fine-tuning cinemagraphs and other great social media content, Alex was able to add 53 new prospects, make 55 phone calls, and send 52 emails resulting in 9 connections.
One of the more notable connections came from a phone conversation he had with the creative director at DigitasLBI Chicago. Once Alex explained how Wonderful Machine works to the director, it sparked his interest. And after Alex showed him the functionality of Wonderful Machine’s site, the director said he was also going to pass the information along to the head of DigitasLBI production.
For June, Claire went through each individual member photographer’s data record to find the most appropriate client based on their photographic specialties. Through this process, Claire was able to add 263 new prospects from around the world to our database. She then made 294 calls and sent out 293 emails to individually promote our member photographers, resulting in 40 connections.
One message Claire received was especially promising. A Photo Producer from Thrillist responded:
Sure, would love to chat. This photographer’s portfolio is great. When are you available?
Now that Matt is in charge of scheduling Portfolio Meetings to show our photographer’s work, his June outreach focused on snagging these in-person meetings.
Although he had to contend with summer vacations and “Out Of the Office” messages, Matt managed to book four portfolio events for June. In all, he made a total of 119 phone calls and landed five portfolio events, four in June and one at the Ad Agency, Purpose for July. His efforts yielded sixteen connections with New York City clients, reaffirming Wonderful Machine’s position as a go-to source for commercial photographers for some of the world’s top agencies.
That’s all for June! Check back next month to see how we’re doing.
