We’re quickly cruising into summer here at WM, which means shorts, sunshine, and lots of outdoor activities! While I was growing up in rural Indiana, summer always meant one thing: the fair. For our June print mailer, we chose this quirky image from Denver, Colorado-based advertising and editorial photographer Willie Peterson‘s series on the county fair, reminding creatives to Forget the udder guys – we’re here to help!
I caught up with Willie to get some background on the image:
This image was shot for a documentary that I helped film called County Fair. We filmed for a week on location at the fair and towards the end of the week we pulled aside some of the subjects we were filming for a quick photo shoot for promotional use. This shot was of Timmy, and we shot for maybe 10 minutes using my Canon 5D Mark III and a single speed light through a white umbrella. The cow kiss was a totally spontaneous event and I was thrilled to have captured it as it happened.
