Delta Air Lines recently developed a new microsite called Delta Home & Away, where fans can get the inside scoop on world-class athletes’ favorite spots to eat, shop, or just hang out. We were thrilled when Delta asked us to produce the shoots and to help find the perfect photographer to tell those stories. Inti St. Clair came through with flying colors — covering 10 different athletes around the United States…
When we first caught wind of this production, we knew it would be a home run (pun intended). Octagon was developing the Delta Home & Away microsite to provide a glimpse into the personal lives of prominent athletes from multiple leagues, while providing local travel destinations for anyone visiting the cities in which the athletes live. For this project, we chose photographer Inti St. Clair. We knew her editorial style and ability to quickly make the most of a situation creatively would be crucial in making the most of very short windows of time with each athlete.
Inti St. Clair is an Austin, Texas-based photographer specializing in lifestyle and portraiture photography. We knew that Inti had great capabilities as a photographer, but we also knew that her friendly and uplifting personality would bring out the best in everyone involved. Coincidentally, Delta happened to be a dream client for Inti. She was very excited to jump in and bring the project to life.
As the website would be developed very quickly, Octagon needed content to populate the site in a timely manner. After balancing player availabilities and location preferences, we landed on the following athletes and respective cities:
Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks in New York, NY
Alexander Mattison of the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis, MN
Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle, WA
Collin Sexton of the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City, UT
Michelle Wie of the LGPA in Los Angeles, CA
Sue Bird of the Seattle Storm in Seattle, WA
CC Sabathia of the New York Yankees in New York, NY
Julie Ertz of the US Women’s National Soccer Team in Los Angeles, CA
Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Miami Marlins in Miami, FL
Michael Harris II of the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta, GA
While initially developing a list of photographers to potentially split up the production and hire locally for each project, we ultimately decided the best approach for this project would be to hire one photographer and have them travel to each city. While the travel would be a bit hectic, it would ultimately provide tremendous value in terms of maintaining visual consistency, and provide comradery for the agency and production counterparts to ensure very smooth productions and workflow in each city.
With each shoot, Inti kept delivering the goods. The agency team was ecstatic with her ability to mesh with the athletes. They were even more pleased with the final results which quickly made their way onto the microsite. Inti was even able to carry on with a broken hand during these productions, proving her dedication and creative force for this project. Sean La Gamma, Executive Producer at Octagon said:
Inti is FABULOUS. Genuinely may be the best photographer I’ve ever worked with. She’s so perfect for this project too — not just her eye but her passion for this kind of work. So grateful we were able to make this happen together.
Eventually, the project will include the cities to which the players travel during their athletic season. The Microsite continues to be populated as the project grows. We’re looking forward to more projects and more athlete collaborations.
