Time to enjoy our latest adventure in print advertising—we just received a copy of the international edition of Lürzer’s Archive, which contains a Wonderful Machine advertisement. This ad features a remarkable photo by Austin-based photographic experimentalist Adam Voorhes.
This image is part of a whole series called Exploded, which examines the insides of things. (This includes, in a certain remembrance of things past, an actual frog—for some of us, a fond memory of high school biology.) Adam conceived this project to add to his portfolio.
I’d done plenty of things in the past that were technically challenging. I thought about things that were nostalgic and brought me back to childhood, like an Etch-A-Sketch.
With the difficult part—compiling significant and exciting objects—out of the way, Adam tackled the technical problem with characteristic vigor.
I collaborated with a couple of stylists and we built these sort of installations in my studio that I photographed.
Adam has had considerable luck with this project, which, he says, promoted itself.
As I started showing them I got some amazing feedback and the project took off. Now I just need the free time to take on my next project!
The images were published in a few art magazines and were featured, along with an interview, by It’s Nice That. Now it has a well-deserved viewership in copies of Archive shipped to Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
