Twang Partners, a beer salt company in Texas, recently coined the phrase “Dressing Your Beer” to describe salting one’s beer (a big thing in the Lone Star State, kind of like salting the rim of a margarita).
In turn, Twang’s agency, Whiskey Design, decided that no one should ever drink naked. And the recent ad campaign shot by Kansas City, Mo.-based commercial director and photographer Austin Walsh was born. The campaign features naked people doing everyday things. As one would imagine, this was an entertaining shoot, as Austin said: “That’s What She Said jokes never get old when there are naked people around.”
The biggest challenge for Austin was making the images strong, outside of the naked people:
It would be too easy to say, “Yea, that looks great! You have a naked guy trimming a bush. And quit there. If you read the copy you understand that the naked characters think what they’re doing is normal, it’s everyone else that isn’t OK with it. To do that we found a good location, worked with prop and wardrobe people and did our best to make a great image, with a naked person in it.
The posters are spread everywhere in the south, as well as life-size cutouts at events that are a big hit. (Photo below.)
The campaign was a winner at 2014 PDN Photo Annual, as well as the recipient of a Gold ADDY.
