Last spring, Maine-based photographer Heather Perry had a problem. While her range of specialties had been steadily growing, the presentation of said work felt restrictive. The boundaries she had set in place years ago when she first developed her website no longer applied. As a result, she came to Wonderful Machine for help.
I had been feeling really stagnant in the presentation of my work in the last few years, and while I have all the skills I need to create a new website for myself, I really wanted a fresh, professional perspective on my work and overall brand look. I decided to get an entirely fresh start by having the WM team come up with new logo, bio, web edit, and website design.
She wanted to update the overall look of her website and portfolio and develop a stronger brand identity. After chatting with one of our project managers, Heather began work on our Branding Overhaul package. This package includes a new logo, bio, web edit, and web template customization. Heather had a solid body of work for us to utilize. However, the focus of her presentation pulled viewers in a few different directions at once — and also included her work as a painter.
Heather began her journey through the branding overhaul with our notorious Branding & Marketing Questionnaire. Our Branding Overhaul questionnaire is a little more intense than usual. It includes questions about the photographer’s overall business, personality, photography, past experiences, future goals, and design aesthetic. The questionnaire covers these aspects before delving into the nitty-gritty of each facet of the overhaul. The questionnaire provides our consultants with a solid foundation to build from and it provides our project managers with a good sense of which of our specialists are appropriate for each part of the project. Consultant and designer Lindsay Thompson was chosen first to tackle Heather’s Logo Design.
While Lindsay was working on the logo, writer, and editor Shannon Stewart interviewed and researched Heather for her new website bio. With those elements in place, they provided an even stronger foundation for the final chapters of the branding overhaul.
Senior Photo Editor Honore Brown was next, contributing a beautiful and inventive Web Edit, while Lindsay began working on Heather’s new Web Template Customization.
All along the way, our project managers ensured that our consultants worked seamlessly with Heather and that the final project worked as a cohesive whole – both representing Heather’s interests and skills and resonating with the clients she was trying to reach!
