Social Media: January 2021

BY Claudia Calderon 11 February 2021
Intel, Report Card, Social Media

Our social media strategy at Wonderful Machine is to promote our members’ content across all our platforms. This month, we continued to update our Pinterest page, creating 25 boards based on specialties. In January, we had 300,180 impressions on our pins and 9,830 engagements. Our top board is Photographer Bios with 19,055 impressions and 1,251 engagements.

We’re continuing to promote our members’ latest work on the Spotlight blog by sharing the articles on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. We’ve also begun using TikTok, which we’ll discuss below.

Recently, NYC-based Tina Boyadjieva visited a remote part of the small Middle Eastern country Jordan, where she met and photographed local villagers. After the International Center of Photography started an IG initiative in March called #icpconcerned, Tina submitted some of her imagery from that trip for consideration. ICP selected 1,000 total images, including one of Tina’s, from more than 50,000 entries and have been preparing the chosen imagery for their first exhibit at their new location on Bowery Street. Our article on Tina’s journey to Jordan was by far the most popular post on our Facebook feed in January, reaching 323 people.

On Instagram Reels, we’ve been promoting our Photographer’s portfolios, the most popular video reaching 2,833 views.

As for the more traditional IG posts, our most-liked images came from our “Star Power” #creativeinplace assignment. A compilation of some of the best celebrity photographs created by our members, this post reached 5,373 people and racked up 480 likes.

The second-most popular image came from Kansas City-based Aaron Lindberg’s weekend takeover. The post below reached 3,549 people and has accumulated 222 likes.

In addition to reaching 14,500 Instagram followers, we’ve opened our own TikTok account, through which we’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes videos from our member photographers who are on assignment.

Check back in March, when Claudia will update us on the TikTok account’s progress and our other social media endeavors!
